Barbara was born in Gawler SA in the late part of World War 2. Living in a country town and attending a country Sunday School, she found the thing she wanted to do with her life at the age of four years, when she captivated an audience at the annual concert.
That passion and that drive has never stopped, and Barbara says that she has come to realize that she was given a wonderful talent, and is grateful for that, because not everyone finds their way that young.
From Calisthenics to Jazz, Tap, Ballet and any form of music and dance Barbara has loved every step of the way. She has danced in every State of Australia, in all sorts of stage shows and productions and has taught over 400 students in Mount Gambier as well nearly that many again in other parts of Australia.
Barbara has produced some 21 enormous stage shows for her own Ballet School and these were known as “Syncopated Fantasy”. 13 years ago she began another series of stage shows known as the “ Mayoral Gala Invitational “ and invited local talent to perform for the Mayors of the district towns near Mount Gambier SA, where she lives.
Over the years, she has produced 68 Debutante Balls, involving some 2800 young people, making their way into society, and also some 18 mini deb balls involving about 100 children aged under 10 years.
In the year 2000 she was awarded a Centenary Medal, for her community work with young people in her district, as some-one who made a difference in the 20th Century, and in 2010, she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal ( OAM ) from the Queen in the Honours list, on Australia Day.
She considers these both as highlights in her life, but also counts all the children whose lives she has touched as major highlights as well. My talent has allowed me to enjoy the two things I love best, dance, and children. “ I feel very blessed “ she says, “ and I thank God endlessly “
