Stephen Hale commenced classical ballet under Terri Charlesworth in Western Australia in 1963. It was whilst with Terri Charlesworth Stephen became involved with performing arts community in Western Australia receiving ballet tuition from Kiril Vassilkovsky, Kira Bousloff and Dianna Waldron. Stephen trained under Freda Grey (Cechetti) before entering The Australian Ballet School in 1971.
In 1972 Stephen returned to Western Australia and pursued a career within the health industry where he went onto to complete several postgraduate qualifications at The University of Western Australia and Edith Cowan University. He has also completed the Ausdance Skill Set for Teaching Dance and the Certificate in Dance Movement Therapy IDTIA Melbourne.
In 1981 Stephen was invited to adjudicate the South West Dance Festival by Laurel Fotakis. Since 1981 Stephen has adjudicated dance festivals in Bunbury, Margaret River, Bayswater, Midvale and Morley. He has adjudicated dance in Western Australia with Alan Alder, Kevin Johnson, Jill Perryman, Ron Ashton and Karen Anderson.
Stephen continues to support dance through the Helene Gowers School, of Dance (Cechetti) as a dance adjudicator. He continues to take an active interest in all genre of dance through networking with dance colleagues that he trained with and who graduated from The Australian Ballet School and the Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) Edith Cowan University.
