Dance Adjudicator

Patricia Walpole

At the age of three Patricia Walpole began extensive training in the areas of classical ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics. As a child I competed successfully in eisteddfods and talent quests and was the winner of studio scholarships in ballet, tap and jazz. I studied RAD ballet and completed BBO examinations in ballet and tap to teacher level. I have danced professionally in cabaret shows in clubs throughout NSW and have performed in pantomimes and shopping centre shows, some of which were character roles.

I established the Pat-Lyn Academy of Dance, which under my direction was a highly successful and competitive dance school. Pupils study classical ballet, tap, jazz and acrobatics to examination level. My pupils compete successfully in eisteddfods and talent quests. Prizes won by these students include “Overall Point Score”, encouragement awards, “Most Promising” awards, and championships in all facets of dance. Many of my pupils have danced professionally, here and abroad. My pupils and myself were a part of the team that has provided the entertainment at the Rugby League Openers and Grand Finals, and several of my students took part in the Olympics and Paralympics opening and closing ceremonies. We have been involved in many performances – Federation Day Parade, Dance Expo at The States Sports Centre, Junior MO Awards.

I have adjudicated at many venues throughout Australia from 1987 to the present day. I have extensive adjudicating experience and am known for my constructive criticism and fairness to all competitors. I have excellent communication skills and have addressed huge audiences providing constructive feedback. I have also been interviewed by the media on many occasions, promoting the eisteddfod I am adjudicating and offering encouragement to all competitors. I have been involved in training sessions for new adjudicators, offering advice particularly on writing reports and criteria for separating competitors whom are all very close. This has also involved writing an evaluation sheet that adjudicators can use for self-evaluation or for committees on the adjudicator’s performance. I have excellent literacy skills. As my hobby is editing for overseas authors, I am very aware of the importance of good grammar and spelling. My reports offer constructive criticism, encouragement and praise.
