Dance
Rowena is the current Secretary of Australian Dance Adjudicators. She believes in solid technique and strong performance skills and has a passion for everything theatre related!
Adjudicating numerous eisteddfods and festivals throughout Australia over the past 20 years, she is very sought after in this field.
Commencing lessons at the age of 2 years under the guidance of her mother Mary Garvie and then Beverley Rowles and Lois Foster, Rowena has been passionate about dance and theatre all her life. Studying Ballet, Tap and Jazz for many years, she achieved much success in examinations and eisteddfods throughout the country.
Rowena has been teaching and choreographing for over 35 years. For many years she owned and operated a large successful Dance Studio in the Wollongong area of NSW where she trained students in R.A.D. Ballet, B.D.A. Tap, Modern/Contemporary, National Character and all styles of Jazz. The Studio was sold to allow more time with her family and also her love of Musical Theatre and Adjudicating. She has choreographed and performed in several musicals and has also been involved in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge and Wakakirri.
Many of her past students are now dancing, choreographing and teaching professionally, both here and overseas. Most of her family are qualified dance teachers. In fact, her whole family is involved in theatre either on stage or in the technical field.
Rowena feels very fortunate to be able to pass on her knowledge and love of performing, and delights in adjudicating and encouraging the competitors to do the best they can and be proud of their achievements – No matter the result!
