 Lydia Cagney Morris has been involved in dance for over fifty years starting her initial dance training in Tasmania studying the R.A.D ballet syllabus. After moving to Country Victoria Lydia then studied the Cecchetti method of classical ballet and the Imperial Society Teachers of Dance (I.S.T.D) syllabus in tap, national character, and contemporary dance. 

Lydia has a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies and has completed her Cecchetti ballet teaching qualifications obtaining her Associate, Associate Diploma, Licentiate and Licentiate Diploma examinations. In addition to this she has, both a Diploma in Dance Teacher Management and a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Lydia’s experience with dance in early education is extensive and she is a popular and well-loved teacher of preschool dance. She was also awarded a scholarship in 2022 and is currently completing further post graduate studies in early education. 

Lydia is an Examiner for the AMEB-Australian Music Education Board and a qualified Artistic Gymnastic Beginner qualified Coach. She has choreographed and performed in amateur theatre productions, taught dance overseas in the USA and Ireland where she also represented Melbourne in the International Rose of Tralee Festival. She has worked in the fitness industry and Community Health in the area of exercise rehabilitation. Also presenting on the topic at various fitness conferences around Australia including VICSWIM, Network Australia, NZ, and Sports Coach Australia. 

A popular studio owner and freelance ballet teacher Lydia’s students have gone on to successful dance careers and full-time training at highly reputable institutions around Australia. Others have been awarded excellence awards, scholarships and one a semi-finalist at the inaugural Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland. 

As an Adjudicator Lydia is known for being encouraging and constructive. She enjoys watching competitors perform growing in confidence and valuable stage experience. She also values the time and effort put in by Eisteddfod Societies, Organisers, Committees, and competition volunteers. 

As an Adjudicator Lydia has judged dance now for over 24 years all around Australia and New Zealand and in recent years also judged Speech and Drama at various eisteddfods.

Serena grew up in Sydney, training in all styles of dance under The British Ballet Organisation at Macquarie Dancers with Lisa-Maree and Elizabeth Derby.

After being introduced to Allan Cross and Josephine Jason, Serena was offered a scholarship to The McDonald College Performing Arts and a position in the Premier State Ballet Youth Company. Performing the lead roles in Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.

In 2009, Serena was awarded the Female Scholarship in McDonald’s Performing Arts Challenge (SydneyEisteddfod), Ballet Scholarship (16-19). At 17, then moved to London, after receiving a scholarship to The English National Ballet School. https://www.enbschool.org.uk/

Performance/Work Experience

At English National Ballet School, Serena was given the opportunity to work with English National Ballet Company in their season of Nutcracker in 2011.

Serena travelled around Europe auditioning and taking class with many different companies and upon graduation, moved to Brno, Czech Republic after receiving a full contract to Národnídivadlo Brno (National Theatre Brno) https://www.ndbrno.cz/ where she worked for nearly five years, performing Principal/Soloist roles and touring through Germany, Slovakia and Italy.

In 2017, Serena joined Queensland Ballet https://www.queenslandballet.com.au under Li Cunxin and was promoted to First Artist in 2019. After nearly six years with Queensland Ballet, Serena retired in April 2023 performing ‘Myrtha, Queen of the Willis’ in Queensland Ballet’s production of Giselle.

Career Highlights

She has performed works by Jiri Kylian, Kenneth MacMillian, George Balanchine, and worked with world renowned teachers and choreographers. Serena has performed numerous soloist and principal roles, her favourites Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, Big Swans in Swan Lake, Shades Pas de Trio in La Bayadere, Lead Harlot in Romeo and Juliet, Dark Angel and Russian Girl in Serenade.

Adjudicating/Work Experience

Over the last two years, Serena has adjudicated with The Sydney Eisteddfod, through General Manager, Annette Brown in sections of Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical and Demi Character of various age groups. As well as, gaining experience examining in house dance studio examinations.

Serena works with a variety of dance schools and dance students through her own business, SMG Artistry https://www.smgartistry.com.au/ coaching Classical Ballet, Stage Makeup Workshops and Clinical Pilates Coaching.

After growing up in the dance industry and experiencing 11 years of dancing professionally in the Classical Ballet Industry in Australia and Europe, I believe I have the experience and knowledge to be a successful adjudicator and provide motivating feedback to inspire the next generation of dancers.

With 15 years of teaching experience across various Queensland studios, I currently teach on the Sunshine Coast. I’m a dedicated dance educator with years of experience fostering growth and creativity.  Through teaching, I’ve discovered the power of tailored feedback to inspire and progress confidence within a dancer.

I am a RAD ballet registered Teacher and hold diplomas in tap, jazz and theatrical with Comdance (formerly CSTD), shaping my expertise across diverse dance genres. These qualifications fuel my dedication to imparting a comprehensive dance education, blending technical excellence with artistic expression. With a foundation built on these credentials, I strive to instil a well-rounded appreciation for dance, fostering a dynamic and enriching learning experience.

Mina Burden, a devoted dance teacher hailing from Worcester, England, has been captivated by the world of Dance and Theatre since the tender age of 2.5. Her illustrious journey led her to achieve advanced RAD and ISTD Ballet, modern, and Tap certifications, along with a successful run in local competitions and coveted performances at the All England Finals.

Following her passion, Mina honed her skills at the Centre Performing Arts, discovering her penchant for teaching. She extended her expertise by pursuing ISTD ballet and modern teacher training at Teachers Training College in Kingston Upon Thames, England, between 2002 and 2006.

Mina’s teaching prowess extends across diverse age groups, spanning from 2.5-year-olds to adults, in a spectrum of dance styles, including Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, and Musical Theatre.

In 2007, Mina established her own dance school in Twickenham, England. Her classes ranged in size and content, encompassing ISTD and RAD syllabus classes, free classes, and private lessons. Her students excelled in examinations, and her choreography wowed audiences in local competitions and shows.

Mina’s unwavering dedication to the art of dance, coupled with her extensive experience as a teacher and administrator, positions her as a prominent figure in the realm of dance education. Her students benefit not only from her technical expertise but also from her creative teaching methods, leaving an enduring imprint on those fortunate enough to be under her tutelage.

Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Stefaan began his training in classical ballet at age 9, under the tutelage of Tatiana Slezenova and Terry Simpson. He commenced further study at the New Zealand School of Dance, on full scholarship in 2012.

During his time at NZSD he was chosen to represent the school at the gala of the Asian Grand Prix in Hong Kong, as a guest artist.

Stefaan joined Singapore Dance Theatre in 2014, performing a wide range of classical and contemporary pieces. Later in 2016 he commenced work with Theatre Pforzheim in Germany, where he stayed for 2 years, touring and performing in numerous dance galas with companies from across Europe and beyond.

Stefaan then accepted a contract with Zfin Malta Dance Ensemble, before moving back to Adelaide in 2019. Since returning he has performed in many professional shows with Lewis Major Projects, most recently completing national and international tours in 2022/2023.

Stefaan has been teaching and coordinating outreach workshops throughout his career overseas and at home and is currently guiding the next generation of young dancers in South Australia and interstate.

Charisse started her performing arts journey with the Disney Channel as a writer, casting director, and performer. She then continued her training at various institutions, including AYT (theatre), Ettinghausens (ballet and pointe), Rob Martin Productions (singing, musical theatre), Brent Street (ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, tap, acrobatics), NIDA (musical theatre), ATOD (musical theatre), and Broadway Dance Centre (ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, musical theatre, singing, drama).

In 2005, Charisse founded ACTiv Elite Performers, a performing arts studio where she serves as the Principal. Her training has produced many professional performers who have worked both nationally and internationally. Some of her students have furthered their studies at WAAPA, NIDA, ED5, VCA, and Brent Street.

Charisse takes pride in being a member of the International Drama Teacher Academy. She has earned a Diploma in Musical Theatre and a Certificate IV in Performing Arts and is currently pursuing further studies. Charisse’s heart lies with Broadway and enjoys travelling to New York once a year to partake in musical theatre intensives. Her most memorable moments in musical theatre include playing Pennywise in ‘Urinetown’, Rusty in ‘Footloose’, Helene in ‘Sweet Charity’ and Miss Hannigan in ‘Annie’.

Charisse is well known for challenging students and bringing out the best possible results each individual can achieve.

Originally from the Illawarra, with 19 years’ of dance experience, Zali has worked with a variety of professionals in the dance/entertainment industry. She was a professional dancer for the NRL St George Illawarra Dragons and now does a variety of professional dance work where she has made appearances dancing on ‘The Voice 2022 Promo Shoot’ and ‘MAFS Australia’ working alongside celebrities and TV networks.

Zali studied all genres of dance including classical ballet (RAD), tap and modern jazz (CSTD, ADA, ISTD), contemporary, hip hop, acrobatics, and musical theatre. She has competed in multiple Eisteddfods across NSW and QLD, and has completed all dance examinations. Her career has led her to perform in a variety of musical theatre shows including; 42nd Street, Phantom of the Opera and Carrie the Musical.

Zali has also had the opportunity to perform at Disneyland Orlando. Not only does Zali continue to dance professionally when she can, she also studied a Bachelor of Nursing and is currently a Registered Nurse as well as teaching students dance. Zali feels fortunate enough to be able to pass on her knowledge and love for dance to the next generations.

Lisa trained in various styles under the direction of Sandra Breen OAM of Southern Academy of Dance. Lisa started her performance career at Dreamworld, she moved on to Cheerleading for the Brisbane Bullets and Broncos then heading to Japan for 2 years. She ended up in Sydney with Grayboy the Agency.

Lisa’s stage and performance credits include Valentino, Sydney Showboat, Theatre International India, the Russian Coachman Club, Cheeky Entertainment, P&O and Princess Cruises. Lisa has worked with choreographers such as William Forsythe, Kelley Abbey, Keith Hawley, Juliette Verne, Nathan Wright to name a few. She has modelled for Lorna Jane, Sunseeker, Bras & Things and Lend Lease. Her film and TVC credits include clients such as Pepsi, Netflix, Coke, Superman and Stupid, Stupid Man.

Lisa has taught extensively and has been involved with many workshops throughout Australia, London, Japan and India. Lisa holds her TAE40116 Certificate IV Training & Assessment – and facilitates and mentors a Diploma of Elite Professional Dance. She is a qualified Yoga and Barre instructor.

Perth born and bred, Dani was trained at the Debra McCulloch Dance Academy in all genres; tap, jazz, acrobatics, song & dance, classical ballet, lyrical and contemporary.

She excelled in both RAD and CSTD exam work and achieved Full CSTD Teacher’s Diplomas in Theatrical, Tap and Modern Jazz.

Some of her most notably received awards include the Martin Rubenstein Classical Award, Gold Star Tap Award, the Blue Sash Theatrical Award, the Premier Danseur Award, and a Full Summer Scholarship at Brent Street curtesy of MFOD Classical Scholarship.

Dani has choreographed and performed for X System International in Jakarta and Malaysia for children’s shows such as Alice in Wonderland, The Care Bears, Larva and Dinosaur Train as well as ADF Sydney and Disneyland America.

Dani enjoys being able to teach not only at a wide variety of studios throughout WA but also internationally. She has previously taught in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia representing CSTD and continues to work with studios in both Malaysia and Singapore for both private competition work and studio intensives.

In 2022 Dani’s choreography was awarded both highest results and notable commendations at DMIA Showtime Perth, 24th Asia Pacific Dance Competition and the 9th CSTD Malaysia Dance Competition. This has continued in 2023 at both the 10th CSTD Malaysia Dance Competition and the 25th Asia Pacific Dance Competition.

Dani has been teaching since 2005 and is now looking forward to extending herself to the world of adjudication to pass on her knowledge and passion to the next generation of performers.

Amanda believes in constructive critique that both guides and encourages. She strives for positive outcomes both physically and mentally for every student regardless of their final ambitions.

Adjudicating many eisteddfods and competitions nationally allows her to use her vast experience to best help each individual student . References available.

Trained in all facets of dance- Scully Borovansky (Classical), Australian Ballet School (classical and contemporary), Bodenweiser (Contemporary), Edna Storey/Joan Smith (tap and jazz), Conservatorium of Music ( Singing ,Piano), Ensemble Theatre( Acting).

Professional engagements include – Earlier: Jesus Christ Superstar, Mo Award nominated Vocal trio “ Network”, Acting roles in Return to Eden, Bodyline and Ben Hall. Later: Australian Ballet Company, Bayerische Staatsballet (Germany as soloist), Principal Guest Artist for ‘The Jessica Iwanson Contemporary Company’ (Munich).

Amanda, whom is RAD registered and qualified, has been teaching and choreographing for over 35 years. On her return from Germany she opened Dance North Academy (Sydney) which saw many former students go onto ballet companies , contemporary companies, Musical theatre productions and dance school ownership.

Amanda is both excited and inspired to pass on her wealth of knowledge and experience in encouraging all students to their personal best and the life skills that performance and competition can offer for all.
